Michael Lynn Hawk of North Hills, California passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 02, 2022, at the age of 59. Born in Statesboro, Georgia, he was the son of the late James Donald Hawk and Barbara Simpson Hawk.
Michael graduated from Statesboro High School in 1981 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Arts from Georgia Southern College in 1985. While in college, he was heavily involved with the theater department and performed in a variety of on-stage roles. He went on to act professionally in two productions at the Hilton Head Playhouse in Hilton Head Island, SC.
Michael also had a passion for comic books and collectibles. He put that passion to work by opening a comic book store in Fayetteville, Georgia with one of his life-long friends. He owned the shop for several years, but in the mid-1990’s moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue his dream of working in the entertainment industry. While living in California, he appeared in several movies and TV shows as a background actor and wrote several screenplays. At the time of his passing, he was working in merchandising for The Walt Disney Company.
In addition to his father, Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert E. Hawk and Maude McWaters Hawk, and maternal grandparents, William (Willie) Simpson and Clifford Adams Simpson. Surviving are his mother, Barbara Simpson Hawk: sister, Donnel (Joe) Matijasich; nephew, Tyler Matijasich; niece, Paige Matijasich: best friend, Lucy Buan; and many others who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his friendship, sense of humor and kind heart.
