The Lord called Michael Leon Matthews home to glory on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the age of 68.

He was preceded in death by his father Wilfred, mother Debra “Mama Lett”, and brother Gerald.

Mike leaves behind his wife Katie; children: Nikki, Rita, Ebony (Rudy), Adrian; sister Julie; brothers: Lawrence (Kim), Steven (Valerie); grandchildren: Karlo, Julia, Ezekiel, Marissa, Landen; sisters in law and in the Lord: Loida, Liz, Carol, Dorothy, Carla, Bobbea, Mireille; brothers in law and in the Lord: Anthony, Albert, Robert, Joey, Sergio, Wayne Sr.; nephew Ezekial “Zeke”. Also many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.

Born in Detroit, raised in Cleveland, toured the world while in the Air Force (3 tours in Vietnam, Philippines, Iraq, Beirut, Granada, Germany and Stateside); settled in Albuquerque until the Lord called Mike home to glory. His passing was unexpected due to health complications. He remained determined to the end with Jesus on his mind.

Prior to retirement, his career consisted of twenty years in Air Force, New Mexico State Transportation Department , and University of New Mexico (UNM). He was an UNM Alumni (Electrical Engineering).

Anyone who truly knew Mike, knows he was a diehard sports fan. His teams were from the city of Cleveland – the Browns, the Cavaliers, the Guardians (formally known as the Indians.) Remember him with love and affection when you watch one of those Cleveland games during the year and years to come.

If the Lord tarries (we need to get ourselves ready), we who know Jesus Christ, know we will see Mike again one day, because the Bible tell us in John 3:16 (“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him will not perish but have everlasting life”) and God said He will never leave us “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-19. So be vigilant, be ready and be watchful for our Savior Jesus Christ is coming soon.

Peace my beloved husband, my love, my friend, my babe – I’ll see you again
