Michael Jon Costill, 78, passed away unexpectedly, after a very brief illness, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Akron City hospital.
Mike was born on September 28, 1943 in Akron, Ohio to James L and Magdelene (Mitchell) Costill.
After graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1961, Mike briefly attended Kent State University and started his working career at BF Goodrich. While at Goodrich, Mike joined the Ohio Army National Guard. The majority of his working years were spent in software and computer science, moving to Columbus in 1989 and retiring from Nationwide Insurance in Columbus. Family prompted a return to the Akron area in 2013.
Mike was a member of Sts Philip and James Catholic Church in Canal Fulton. Still actively playing softball with Akron Monument & Granite in the Silver League, including two games just last week, anyone who knew Mike was certainly aware of his lifelong passion for trains. An avid collector of all things railroad, Mike was also passionate about the Age of Steam Roundhouse Train Museum in Sugarcreek Ohio where he did everything from giving tours to helping with restoration work on the steam locomotives.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Darlene (Spinelli); daughter Mary Beth (Dr. William) Costill-Fullam, and son Michael (Sunny) Costill. Grandchildren include Allison, Aiden, Abby, Andrew and Ava Fullam, and Owen, Spencer, and Gwen Costill. Lest we forget, his most beloved dog Chessie (appropriately named) survives as well. In addition to his parents, he was recently preceded in death by his sister Mary Jane (David) Warner.
