Michael J. Parkins, 70, of Ottawa, died on Thursday morning, March 7, 2019 at his home.
Michael was born on March 16, 1948 in Ottawa, to Kenneth G. and Mary L. (Cunico) Lassen. He was raised by his mother Mary Parkins and step-father Ernest A. Parkins. He attended St. Columba Grade School, Ottawa Township High School, and Illinois Valley Community College where he received his Associates Degree.
He served in the United States Air Force. On June 5, 2004, Michael married Gail Marie (Jorstad) Cross at the First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. He retired from the Ottawa Daily Times Newspaper, owned and operated “Mike Parkins Delivery Service”, and “Parkins Parties Unlimited”. He was a member of the Ottawa Moose, VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, and the Ancient and Honorable Order of theTurtles.
Mike enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, playing golf, chess, euchre, and cribbage. He was also part of the Karaoke Group known as “the New Edition” which was a spin-off of “The Gators”.He was survived by a sister Barbara (Milt) Wolber, of Sterling, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail, his parents, and step-father.
