Mr. Michael J. Long, Jr.
, 73, of Jackson departed at home on Thursday January 21, 2010 surrounded by his family.
Michael was born in the Bronx and grew up in Astoria Queens. He moved to Rockaway, NJ in the mid sixties. He lived in Northern NJ for 25 years before moving to Jackson ten years ago.
Civic Minded, Michael was a Licensed Electrical Contractor by trade and an innovator by nature. As president of Long Life Lighting, Inc., he was at the forefront of the LED Traffic and Rail Signal industry, striving to bring Green Technology into the Northeast Corridor.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Michael had strong ties to his Irish American Heritage and was a proud member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh for 45 years. He was the only member to belong to all four chapters; Old Bridge, West Orange, Belmar as well as the Northeastern PA Chapter. He was an active member in the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, the Irish American Cultural Institute, the NJ Irish Committee, the Giblin and Cryan Associations, Project Children and the Democratic Party.
Michael is survied by his wife of 8 years, Elsie Ford Long. He leaves behind his four children Theresa Matuza of Hazlet, Michael Long, III of North Arlington, Patricia Long Ferrigno of Lake Hopactong and Kathleen Seraut of Bushkill, PA. He was the step-father of Karyn Broselofsky of Cliffwood Beach, NJ and Christina Hutchins of Tarpon Springs, FL.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 40 years Marie Fulmer Long and his brother Thomas Long.
