Michael J. “Mike” Byus, 70, of Virginia, IL died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born September 24, 1941 in Columbia City, IN; the son of John D. and Oma G. Johnson Byus. His parents have preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sisters, Barbara L. Gallagher (husband, James) of Damariscotta, ME and Carolyn Ann Byus of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two nieces; four nephews; and several special caregivers including Kay McCausland and Stephanie Hobrock, both of Virginia.
Mike was a graduate of Virginia High School and Illinois College. He was active with Boy Scouting in Virginia and received the Eagle Scout award. He served with the US Air Force in Vietnam from 1964 to 1967. He was employed later as a computer programmer for Anheuser-Busch and Alberici Construction, both in St. Louis, MO.
He returned to Virginia in 1978 to assume management of the Ben Franklin store upon the retirement of his parents and later served as the primary caregiver for his parents.
