Michael J. Burda, age 86, of New Smyrna Beach, died Tuesday, September 24 at home, surrounded by family. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Burda came to this area in 1995 from Hudson, Ohio. A member of the American Society of Automotive Engineers, he retired from the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Cleveland, Ohio, specializing in commercial transportation loss prevention and safety.
An Army veteran of World War II in the European Theater with the Military Police, he served with the occupation forces. His duties included support functions for the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial. Mr.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Daniel Ricci, of Chardon, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathleen Burda of Sagamore Hills, Ohio; and a granddaughter Kristin Ricci and her husband, Esben Vogelius of Moreland Hills, Ohio.
