Michael H. Chovanes, age 68, of Sagamore Beach, Bluffton SC, and formerly of California, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at the BID Hospital in Boston. He was the devoted husband of Linda (Mobilia) Chovanes. Loving father of Cailyn (Chovanes) DePeppo and her husband Anthony of Raleigh, NC, Michael Chovanes of Brighton, and Lindsay Chovanes of Los Angeles, CA. Michael was the protective brother of John Chovanes and the late Catherine Chovanes of San Leandro, CA, Gregory Chovanes and his wife Lizabeth of Orinda, CA, Peter Chovanes and his husband Celestino of San Francisco, CA. Michael was also the brother (in-law) of Guy Mobilia and his wife Barbara, and Joseph Mobilia. He was the son-in-law of the late Harry and Carmela Mobilia. Michael is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Michael was born in Oakland, CA on March 30, 1952, son of the late Edward and Marilyn (Luff) Chovanes. He was a graduate of Piedmont High School in CA and Northeastern University where he earned his Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice. After a lengthy career in law enforcement & security, Michael found his passion as an entrepreneur opening up several of his own businesses; these include a document shredding company and a hobby store. Eventually he found himself in the marketing department at Costco where he retired in 2018.Michael was known for looking debonair, always impeccably dressed. Being a lover of history, and all things WWII, Michael volunteered his time at the International Museum of WWII in Natick. He also loved reading, cooking, boating and was interested in anything aviation, having earned his pilot’s license early on in life. He was also a car enthusiast having been involved with his father’s Ford Dealership in San Leandro, CA. But, above all these hobbies and interests Michael’s favorite pastime was to travel with the love of his life, Linda. Their most recent trip was a river cruise through Europe where he finally got to connect with his Eastern European heritage.
