On November 4, 2020, Michael Edward McGowan, Sr., passed in the company of his loving family after a battle bravely borne. He was 69.
The son of Frederick and Joan Ethel (nee McCann), in Baltimore, he would spend the entirety of his life as a resident of Glen Burnie.
A Glen Burnie High School graduate in the class of ’69, Michael used his vocational training to become a Tool, Jig and Fixture Builder. He had a fruitful career of 30 years at General Motors as a member of the United Auto Workers Union. Following retirement , never letting grass grow beneath his feet, he volunteered as a driver for the Veterans Administration. He was a “get it done kind of guy,” who had a love for Corvettes and dogs, Nascar and Orioles Baseball. Michael also enjoyed big game fishing, specifically offshore from the coast of the Carolinas to Florida and frequently he would drop a line locally in the Chesapeake Bay.
He is much noted for his saying, “It is what it is,” but also taught life lessons and gave wisdom to many with his advice “to let your conscience be your guide.”
He will be dearly missed by his beloved daughter Nicole Ellen Neal and her spouse Kenneth as well as his dear son Michael E. McGowan, Jr.
Surviving him are beloved sisters Bonnie C. Huggins and Marcia K. Ring and her husband William. Left to mourn the loss are many nieces and nephews that he adored very much especially his mentored nephew nautical Captain Timothy Higgins.
He will be sorely missed by his pet dog, “Kali.”
