Michael E. “Mike” Long passed away at 4:27 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mike was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 7, 1923. He married Lois “Jean” Reason in 1953, and Jean preceded him in death on May 26, 2005.

Mike graduated from Logansport High School in 1942 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

.After the war, he returned home and played for the 1948 State Champion Logansport Eagles baseball team, and also had a tryout for the New York Yankees.

In 1949, Mike joined the Logansport Police Department, eventually becoming police chief in 1967. Mike guarded Robert Kennedy on April 23, 1968 during a campaign stop in Logansport. 

In 1974, he was elected Sheriff of Cass County, and after that he was a security guard at Wilson Foods until retiring in 1988.

Mike enjoyed watching sports, but especially Notre Dame Fighting Irish football.

Surviving are a son, Brad Long, Logansport, and a daughter, Janet Cox (Gordon), Greenwood; three grandsons, Matt Cox, Carmel, Chris Cox, Greenwood, and Kyle Cox, Greenwood, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Kathryn Snyder, sister, Kay Warner, and brother, Jim Snyder.
