Michael E. Briggs Sr., an 82 year old Oxford resident and husband to Della Fowler Briggs, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 15. He was born May 20, 1938 in Fair Haven, VT., where he graduated high school, class of ’56. He was the son of the late Phillip and Beatrice Howard Briggs. Michael then went into the Navy, serving until 1960. After moving to CT., he went to work for Farrel Corp. as a machinist and later as Foreman. He went on to run the apprentice program there for many years. He later operated his HVAC Co. with his best friend Bruce. He would go on for a time working as a self employed handyman until retirement. Michael was an avid fisherman. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Pulaski N.Y. that he spent with his son and grandsons. He never missed his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a dedicated, hands on fun grandfather. He was also a talented and enthusiastic woodworker. He would build chairs & bird houses, but more importantly, went out of his way to help others with their projects. If someone couldn’t complete a project or was stuck, the word was to call Mike. He would help anybody. He was the kind of guy whose handshake was his bond. He will be greatly missed by all those privileged to know him.  In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his son Michael Briggs Jr. and JoAnn of Seymour, his daughter Michelle Sharry and Paul of Scituate, MA., His brother Francis J. Briggs of Shelton and his beloved grandchildren Michael III, Mallory and Jack Briggs and Nicholas, Morgan and Christopher Sharry.
