Michael D. Swor passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at home with the ones he loved most. Mike is survived by his wife, Kim, who said that he was her rock, the one who gave her all her strength, and his son Cody (13 years old) who said his dad was tough, hardworking, kind, and loving. He is also survived by a very large extended family connected by blood, love, and friendship.
Mike was diagnosed with Stage III Adenocarcinoma of the Esophagus and Stomach – or what most non-medical professionals would call stomach cancer. He fought hard to stay here with his family with chemo, radiation, and immunotherapy treatments and continued to work from home the whole time. Whatever plan the doctors suggested, he never wavered, often saying: “I don’t have a choice. I have to fight to stay with my family.” Even after being told that he wouldn’t survive, Mike continued the intensive treatments because they gave him more time, even if it was only a few more weeks, it just meant more time with his son and his wife. That is who Mike was, a father and a husband whose sacrificial love for his family knew no limit.
Mike was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps for 8 years. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a Systems Administrations Manager for HCA. When he wasn’t working, Mike was an avid outdoorsman, particularly hunting, shooting, and camping. He loved to collect Star Wars memorabilia and play online games with Cody. He frequently cleared the table in poker tournaments.
Mike was born on December 2, 1972, in Ocala, FL, to Don and Arlene. He is the eldest brother to Mary, Janet and Billy. He has nieces and nephews cousins, cousins-in-law, aunts, uncles, and so many friends — all who loved him. The entire extended family is shaken from this loss that came way too soon.
The Swor family are Christians and are blessed to know that Michael is now out of pain, at home with his Heavenly Father. They believe in the power of prayer and ask you to keep them in your prayers. Pray for comfort and understanding, for Cody who lost his dad and best friend way too soon, and for strength for his loved ones as they continue on
with his memory.
Mr.
