Michael Cartwell Davis, Sr., son of the late Harold Davis and Alveria O’Neal, was born on December 17, 1949 and quietly departed this life on Tuesday, June 21, 2017 at Holy Cross Hospital.
Michael was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois until the age of nine. He was the only child until his mother married George J. White, affectionately called “Pop”, who also had children. Michael was delighted to acquire siblings and so began the journey of this wonderful blended family. Michael was educated in public and private schools in New York, DC, and Maryland. He graduated from Dunbar High School and Bowie State College. After graduation Michael went on to teach English and History at Bladensburg Jr. High and High School. In 1978, he met and later married his loving wife of 35 years, Janet Davis. Mike and Jan lived in Washington, DC where they coA parented and raised their son Michael Davis, Jr. They later moved to Montgomery County, Maryland to help his in-laws, the late Rev. John and Wilrita Simms.
Michael’s smile was contagious and he found joy by encouraging everyone he met with a kind word or through music. He worked at Safeway, for more than 17 years, and developed lifelong relationships with his customers. Mike was a huge fan of all genres of music and was blessed to share his talent as an on-air DJ for a few local gospel radio stations, WOL and WYCB. He later created a home studio and made the best mix tapes for friends and family. Heaven has gained a new DJ!
Mike and Jan lived richly with family and friends as their treasure. Michael was a talented story teller and often shared his life’s journey with his son and nephews, Derrion and Darrell. His close friends (Raleigh, Mike P., and Brian) were like brothers and he had a tight bond with his cousin Jeff. Michael was not ashamed to confess that he shared the greatest love possible with his wife, friend, and caretaker, Janet. He felt so blessed to marry the woman he loved, because she taught him how to love.
Mike was raised Catholic. In 1990, he joined Jan at Evangel Missionary Baptist Church where she is a Charter Member and the Chairman Deaconess. He was not afraid to proclaim the Gospel and share his love for Christ.
Along with his wife and son, Michael leaves to celebrate his life four sisters, Jackie, Ruth, Denise and Michelle; two brothers Darrell and George; two grandchildren Logan and Sloan; a special play sister, Karen Scott, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in -laws, and close friends.
