Michael Allan Tanous
December 11, 1939 – March 1, 2022
Michael A. Tanous, 82, of Colorado Springs, died March 1, 2022, peacefully in the presence of his family members.
Mike, the son of Alfred and Wilma (Potter) Tanous, was born on December 11, 1939, in Hettinger, ND, where he attended school and graduated in 1957. He earned his Bachelor in Philosophy degree from the University of North Dakota in 1961. His first job was as a mathematician in Grand Forks. Mike and the family moved to California in 1963, and after a series of positions of increasing responsibility in jobs across the country, he was named vice president for several defense contractors in the Colorado Springs area in 1974. In 1994, Mike decided he wanted to be his own boss, and started his own businesses in systems management/leadership consulting as well as photography. This aligned well with his passions as he was a lifelong birdwatcher and photographer, and as a younger man enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He served on several boards and committees, including the University of Colorado engineering advisory committee and the Colorado Springs Multiple Sclerosis Society board of directors.
Mike is survived by his sister and five children, ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
