On Thursday, October 28, 2021, Michael Alan Dominiak of Destin, Florida, passed away at age 62, surrounded by family, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center after a battle with cancer. Michael was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on July 9, 1959. He is survived by the love of his life, Gillian Cook, of Amersterdam, Netherlands, his parents, Kenneth and Barbara Dominiak of Fort Walton Beach, his sisters Michele and Melissa, his brothers Steve and Greg, Gregʼs wife Maria, his nephews Jake, Cole, Alex and Reed, his nieces Nicole and Lauren.
Michael grew up in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and graduated from St. Mary Catholic School and Choctawhatchee High School, where he lettered in swimming. He attended Pensacola Junior College, where he was elected to Phi Theta Kappa and Whoʼs Who in American Junior Colleges, captained the Swim Team, and graduated with honors.
Michael had a strong faith in God and cherished his family and friends, who hold him so dear and already miss him fiercely. His generosity and willingness to help others were endless. He was Godfather to Alexa and Alex because of his beliefs, kindness, and great way with kids. Michael was a terrific athlete; he was a competitive swimmer from an early age (he still holds a record at MIT), he studied and competed in the martial art Muay Thai, he was an accomplished ballroom dancer, he scuba dived in Belize (where he met Gillian), skied the Swiss Alps, and hiked throughout the world. He loved to travel. The postcards he always sent home were hilarious; his straight-faced, dry sense of humor was epic. He loved a Padron Series 1964 cigar and a fine-fitting suit; he had great style. Mike was a loving man with an amazing intellect, a strong faith, and a fun, gentle spirit. He was grateful for everything God gave him in life.
Michael is, and will always be, deeply loved by his family, friends, colleagues, and the communities he supported.
