Michael Burris, 31, of Indianapolis, formerly of Elkhart, passed away following an industrial accident at his work in Indianapolis at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10.

He was born June 7, 1985, in Goshen, to the late Terry M. Burris and Kathleen A. (Forrester) Burris, who survives him in Indianapolis.

Also surviving is a brother, Thomas Duke, of South Bend; sisters Karrie (Jamara Powell) Duke and Ruby (Tyrone Bryant) Burris, both of Indianapolis; grandparents Leroy and Charlene Burris of Newport, N.C.; aunt Carlen Sharp of Elkhart; nieces and nephews Serenity, Ayden, Camden, Jayven, Tyrone Jr., Terriana, Gabby and Ashton; best friends “Uncle” Mike Baumer and Shawn MacMillan; and special friend, Zoe Nateman.

Michael was a skilled carpenter and electrician, but was working as a maintenance technician at a plastics recycling facility at the time of his passing.

He was an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family doing just that, as well as playing his guitar, cards and shooting pool.

He was also a proud U.S. Navy veteran who had groomed himself since childhood to become an U.S. Navy S.E.A.L.

He was honorably discharged following an injury sustained just prior to his completion of Basic Underwater Demolition and SEAL (BUDS) training.
