Meta Alphonsine Basukumbi “Mamu” died in her daughter’s home on August 18, 2021, in Glen Burnie, MD due to complications following pancreatic cancer. She was 71.
Mamu was born on July 04, 1950, in Ilebo, Kasai, DR Congo to her parents, Andre Basukumbi and Anastasie Bampendi. She studied at the Primary and Secondary School of Ilebo. She married Prophet Antoine Tshiyombo Bakwalufu. They moved to Kinshasa where they continued their lives together and Mamu was a businesswoman. Unfortunately, her husband passed away in October 1983.
She moved to the United States in 2001 and dedicated her remaining time to educating and caring for her grandchildren, as well as attending prayer circles at her local church.
Mamu was a joyful and supportive grandmother with a passion for fashion, always dressed up to impress and very happy person.
Mamu is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julienne Bakwalufu and Antoine Wamulumba of Glen Burnie, MD; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and her siblings.
