Meryl “Mert” Russell, 78, of Three Oaks, Michigan, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at her home with family by her side. Mert was born May 8, 1929 in LaPorte County, Indiana, the daughter of John and Bertha (Huston) Paff. She graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1947 and worked as a cashier at the Sawyer Truck Stop for many years.
She married Fred Spears on September 4, 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 12, 1950. On July 4, 1992, she married Ira “Jake” Russell, who preceded her in death on August 17, 1999. Mert was a member of the auxiliary of the Randall Couchman American Legion Post #204, Three Oaks. She was an outgoing and fun loving person that will be missed by her wide circle of friends and family.
Survivors include her children, Bruce (Cheri) Spears of Grand Rapids, Wendy (Al) Williams of Galien, and Debra (Eugene) Lidke of Union Pier; grandchildren, David Spears, Lisa Swayze, Adrian Spears, Allen Lee Williams, Jr., Patrick Williams, Heather Williamson, and Joshua Williams; and great grandchildren, Karen, Hannah, Krysten, Collin, Brandon, Emma, Skyler, Patricia, Paige, Dylan, and Tyler.
