His greatest joy in education was here at West Junior High. The year prior to his coming to West this school had been put on academic probation by the State of Idaho Education Department. Two years after he became Principal the State Department rated West Junior High School as a Merit School. Merrill gives full credit for this change to his outstanding staff of Teachers and fellow Administrators. He said, “They knew what needed to be done, and made it happen”.
