Merrill Keith Hackett, 90, of Fort Wayne, passed away on July 10, 2020, at his home. Born at his home on Taylor Street, on November 5, 1929, to the late Walter and Alverta (Scherrer) Hackett. He spent his formative years in Fort Wayne, graduating from South Side High School.

Merrill was married to Edith Auld in the West Wayne Methodist Church, on November 5, 1949. Edith preceded him in death on January 17, 2019, after 69 years of marriage.

He retired from ITT Aerospace in October 1989, after 41 years of service. He also worked for Safety Wear for 3 years.

Merrill was a member of Lake Chapel United Methodist Church and the Arcola Lion’s Club. He enjoyed traveling. Merrill and Edith traveled to all 50 states. Many of the trips included the grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing with his brothers-in-law in Ontario, Canada.

He also traveled and played accordion in the local band, Joe Taylor and the Red Birds.

Merrill is survived by three sons, Dennis (Mary) Hackett, Gary (Cheryl) Hackett and Steven (Sheryl) Hackett; five grandsons, Abraham (Emily) Hackett, Zachery (Lindsay) Hackett, Jacob(Alisha) Hackett, Tyler Hackett and Keith Hackett; five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Walter Hackett; a great-granddaughter, Sery.
