Merna Hunter,

92 of Centennial, CO passed away June 4, 2013.  Merna was born March 20, 1921 in Wilsey, Kansas to James Leroy Hudson and Nelle Ruth Hinshaw.  Merna is a graduate from Kansas State.  She taught in Pueblo, County schools before joining Englewood schools in 1956 and retiring in 1980.  Merna also worked in retail stores.  She made and decorated special occasion cakes for 9 years.  She taught Brazilian Dimensional Embroidery and Bunka Japanese Embroidery since 1988 and Traditional Japanese Embroidery since 1998.  Merna learned to do embroidery when she was 4 years old in the 4-H Club.  She could sew almost anything.  Knitting, crochet, tatting, beading, weaving, bobbin lace were some of her specialties.  Traveling was also a love of Merna’s.  She traveled to the British Isles 3 times, Hawaii 10 times, cruised around the world and South America, flying tour of Australia and New Zealand, Alaskan Cruise plus a  ground tour of Alaska.   Survived by her children, Jack (Claudia) Hunter, Lynn (Penny) Hunter; Larry (Bev) Hunter and Darene (Brent) Black and her sister Marje Hailey.  Her family also included 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
