Merlin was born September 9, 1925 at Carroll, NE to Henry and Jenny (Gerhardt) Harmeier. He attended School at Carroll and entered the United States Army in 1943; he received his honorable discharge in 1945. On June 4, 1951 Merlin married Anitadel (Anita) Fitch in Randolph, NE. They lived in Danbury, IA and Mapleton, IA before settling in Norfolk.
Merlin worked for Joyce/Fullerton Lumber. Merlin worked for S & S Lumber when it opened and was Yard Foreman. He retired in 1996. Merlin then worked in maintenance at the Ramada Inn for over 10 years.
Merlin took great pride in his yard and dearly loved his cat Lovey.
Merlin is survived by his 3 children and their spouses, Rick and Carolyn Harmeier of Norfolk, Bob and Sheri Harmeier of Commerce, TX, Kathy and Dean Meharg of Grand Island, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a sister Lucille Nelson of Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anita on October 27, 2008, a great-grandson, 3 brothers, Richard, Melvin and Leo and a sister, Hazel Leonard.
