Meredith ( Tade) Jenkins, 88, formerly of Pride Ave., Salem, passed away at Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center ,Wednesday, July 21, 2010 following an extended illness. He was born at Big Isaac on April 6, 1922, the son of the late John C. and Versa Adams Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by his son Allen Jenkins and wife Karen of
Buckhannon; three sisters, Pat Travis and husband Gerald (Duke) of Crystal Lake, Rita Hiley and husband, Ralph of Parkersburg, and Joyce Stout and husband, Chuck, of Salem;one brother, Larry (Pete) Jenkins and wife Patty of Big Isaac.
He was married to Virginia Ford Jenkins who died in 1978. Also preceding him in death was a son, Johnnie Jenkins of Jarvisville; three brothers, Paul Jenkins, Willard (Bill) Adams and Gerald Jenkins; two sisters, Wilma Romel and Mary Jean Gum Fling and a grandaughter, Kathleen May Jenkins.
Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Zanie Jenkins of Bristol; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Harris, William Jenkins both of Fairmont, Missy Davis of French Creek, Jody Metheney of Buckhannon, Johnnie Wayne Jenkins, Chris Jenkins of Bristol, and Boyd Bowen of Salem; and several great-grandchildren.
Meredith graduated from Doddridge County High School, served in th U.S. Army during WWII in Normandy, France and Central Europe and was awarded several decorations and citation. He was very proud of having served his country.
He retired from the Salem Industrial Home. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, and loved hunting and fishing. He was Methodist by faith.
