Melvina Wright

Melvina Bonner Wright, 72, was born July 21, 1948 in Jackson. She met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the glorious morning of Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021. Melvina was one of nine children born to the late Melvin Bonner and Rachel Bonner.

At a young age, Melvina was united in marriage to Winston Cox, with whom she gave birth to her late son James Cox and two daughters, Vallie Jones and Christine Maier. Later, she married Richard Wright. The couple had two daughters, Daniyell Thompson and Patrice Wright.

Melvina loved styling hair. Her goal was to become a cosmetologist, which she accomplished. Styling hair and bringing out the beauty in her customers was her delight. She received first place in a hair stylist competition in Denver, Colo.

Melvina loved to cook and have family get-togethers. Everyone loved her water corn bread, collard greens with turkey necks, and her famous strawberry cheesecake, and more. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to cook. Giving back to others in need, like feeding the homeless and donating clothing gave her great joy. Melvina enjoyed arts and crafts, planting and gardening in her spare time.

She loved many and was loved by many. Melvina was patient, kind and loving toward all she knew. With an amazing smile, she would light up a room and the effect was contagious.

Preceding her in death were her late parents; son, James Cox; and brothers, Louis, Thomas, Ray and Jessie Bonner.

Melvina leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Vallie Jones, Christine Maier, Daniyell (Mitchell) Thompson and Patrice Wright; her sister, Voncile Monigan; and brothers, Clifford, Melvin Jr. and Jack Bonner; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and would do anything for; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
