Melvin Stevens, 86, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Cecilia (Hoskins) Stevens for 64 years, passed away on Thursday, November 4th surrounded by his family at Hartford Hospital. Born in LaGrange, Maine, he was the son of the late Chester and Violet (Smith) Stevens. Mel graduated Mattanacook Academy in 1943. After graduating, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Battle of the Bulge and followed General Patton all over Europe, receiving two purple hearts. He worked at Pratt & Whitney Tool and Die in West Hartford for eighteen years, Reliable Manufacturing in Bloomfield until retirement in 1988, and was a school bus driver in Granby retiring at the age of eighty.
