Melvin “Nick” R. Cunningham, Sr., 67, of Rt. 3, Clarksburg, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at United Hospital Center following an extended illness. He was born February 9, 1944 in Clarksburg the son of the late Lee Cunningham and Edith Thorne Cunningham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Louise Starkey Cunningham in 2006 whom he married March 29, 1965. Melvin was survived by four children; Melvin Roger Cunningham, Jr. and wife Lea of Lamberts Run, Jeff Ash and wife Beverly of Clarksburg, Terry Ash and companion Betsy of Hepzibah and Minta Kyle and husband Terry of Lamberts Run; son-in-law; Frank Jarman of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; Jolea, Dylan, Ashton, Cody, Jade, Justin, Jordan, Paige and Emily; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and four special nieces who have been an inspiration in the last couple of weeks Kimmy, Tract, Rebecca and Kayla and his Doctor, Karen Skidmore. Melvin was preceded in death by one daughter; Jennifer Jarman; one brother; David Cunningham and two sisters; Barbara Hartman and Janet Knotts. Melvin graduated from Victory High School in 1962, he was a retired state employee having worked for the State Road for 15 years and previously worked for Eagle Convex and the coal mines. He was a wood worker, meat cutter, enjoyed fishing and an all around handyman. He was a member of Lamberts Run United Methodist Church.
