Melvin P. King, 81, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, April 26, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.

He was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Ovid, Mich., to Elmer D. King Sr. and Flossie E. (Morningstar) King.

Survivors include two sons, Frank (Lori) King of Elkhart and Walter (Michele) Butcher of Granger; two sisters, Evelyn (Lewis) Hartman of Goshen and Berneda (Don) Morse of Elkhart; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Glenn, Darwin, Eugene “Gene” and Elmer “Bud” King Jr., and one granddaughter, Cherry King.

Melvin served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1954 and was stationed in Korea during the war.

For more than 40 years Melvin worked as a butcher and meat cutter. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching baseball and spending time outdoors.
