Melvin (Mel) L. Blunier, 94, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at his home with his wife by his side. He had battled Alzheimer’s for the past 11 years.

He was born on January 22, 1928, in Peoria Heights, Il. to Fred and Della Ives Blunier.

Mel is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara. Also surviving is a son Mick (Karen) Blunier of Bartonville; daughters, Sherrie (Joe) Binstock of Chillicothe and Michele (Mark) Roehnelt of Dunlap; three grandchildren Natalie (Andrew) Setter, Andrew (Katie) Blunier, Lauryn Roehnelt and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two beloved pets, his dog Maddie and cat Rocky.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and five brothers.

Mel was a Korean War veteran. He was part owner/operator of Blunier Concrete Co. of Elmwood for 37+ years before selling the company and retiring at age 70.

He enjoyed playing golf and was a Charter Member of the Maple Lane Country Club of Elmwood. He loved biking, dancing, and just having a “Good Ole’ Time.” He had a wonderful sense of humor, often laughing at his own jokes BEFORE he got to the punch line.

Mel loved animals and always had at least one rescue…or 2 or 3.

He was a member of St.

Mel was the strong silent type who was known for his patience and his unwavering love and devotion to his family. He was a beloved husband, father, and Papa who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

“No words or time can ever fill the void his passing has created.”

I would personally like to thank Sheryl, Sherry, Amy, Marlana, and Kiaya for helping my mother and me with dad’s care for the last several months.
