Melvin L. Johnson, 45, of Old Field Road, Southbury, died unexpectedly Friday, November 4, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Sandy (Mardin) Johnson. Mel was born February 15, 1966 in Waterbury, son of Melvin and Mary Ellen (Manton) Johnson of Wolcott. For 18years, he owned and operated with his wife the South Britain Oil Company. He loved fishing and weekend getaways to Rhode Island. Mel was a former member of the Southbury Volunteer Fire Department. He will be greatly missed by many good friends and customers.
Besides his wife and his parents, he is survived by two sons, Christopher Johnson and his wife Kali of Southbury, Ryan Johnson of Southbury; his daughter, Samantha Johnson and her fiancé©e Bill Grosse Jr. of New Milford; his three brothers, Edward Johnson of Wolcott, Mark and his wife Dana Johnson of Oakville and Matthew and his wife Donna Johnson of Wolcott; his maternal grandmother, Mary Manton of Wolcott; his mother-in-law, Ellen Caputo of Southbury , his brother and sister in law Robert and Amy Mardin of Brunswick, Maine, aunts, uncles and cousins, 3 granddaughters, Autumn, Brianna and Maci; several nieces and nephews, and his wonderful co-workers, Tom Murphy, Uncle Pete Kokoski, Ray Massi and Phil Nelson.
