Melvin Jones was born in Barbour County to the late JC and Lizzie Mae Jones.  Melvin was the last of nine children.

At a young age, Melvin became a lifelong member of Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Clio, Alabama, where he initially served as a member. He graduated from Clio School in 1969. Melvin married the love of his Life, Joyce Smith on December 23, 1972 and remained her devoted husband until he departed this life on December 28, 2021.

As a young man, Melvin was a hard-working father and husband. To support his family, he worked at Bob’s Egg Company then he progressed to Covan Moving Company. He further progressed into driving logging trucks until he retired.

Melvin answered the Lord’s call on his life when he was in his sixties and entered the ministry. He was ordained as a minister on March 22, 2015. Later, He served Big Creek MBC as an Associate Pastor, under the leadership of Reverend Larry J. Magwood.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents JC and Lizzie Mae Jones, three sisters, three brothers, one stillborn sibling and his firstborn son, Melvin Lavon Jones. 

He is survived by his loving wife: Joyce; one daughter: Shannon; two sons: Darrell and Morgan; ten grandchildren: Jeremy McCrae, Rodney Jones, Jonathan Brascom, Eric Lindsay, Eyona McQueen, Steven Lindsay, Breanna Jones, Gaiden Lindsay, Morlyn Jones, and Mercy Jones; two great grandchildren: Emery McCrae and JaiLani McCrae; one sister: Ardell McLeod; one brother: Willie Davis (Mary) Jones; and a great many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
