Melvin “Jerry” Jerome Smyers, 72, of Ridgely, MD formerly of Arden on the Severn in Crownsville passed away on November 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry as he was affectionately known was born on March 6, 1945 in Bedford County, PA to the late Melvin Roy and Carolyn Dorothy (Sparks) Smyers. He was raised by his maternal grandparents. After the passing of his grandmother he was raised by his foster parents, Webster and Lillian Bennett who raised him as their own child along with their four other sons. He enjoyed the typical games that young boys play with their brothers and sisters growing up and some not so typical games that were special to those growing up in the country. He attended school in Everett, PA. He married Norma Merritt together they had one son, Jeffrey Lynn Smyers. He met Elizabeth “Beth” M. Adams and after asking her out seven times she finally agreed, they went on their first date May 10, 1986 and were married on October 1, 1988. He worked as a Truck Driver for over 30 years for Reliable Contract Company, his C.B Handle was, “Double Jack”.
