Melvin J. Schlemer, 82, of Troy, Ill., born Aug. 25, 1934, in Collinsville, Ill., past from this eternal life Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.
Mel was a loyal friend with a heart for serving the aged. He enjoyed volunteering on the Senior Citizen’s Board recently and delivering meals on wheels in years past. He visited friends and relatives at the Fountains and other assisted living facilities on a weekly basis. He loved going out for a meal with people he cared about exchanging stories and jokes. Recounting stories of earlier times spent hunting, fishing, working on the farm, playing ball and tending the school house stove as a youngster were just a few of his fondest memories to share with listening ears. We thank God for the long, full life he blessed Mel with, for all the years we shared together, and for the promise of a reunion in heaven someday.
Surviving are her children, Mark (Shawn) Schlemer, Carma (Les) Agne, Rodney Schlemer; step-daughters, Sonya Angel and Denise Underwood; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Droy and Laverne Renaud; many beloved family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Paula, nee Nash, Twillmann and Joyce, nee Rich, Schlemer; parents, Oliver J. and Alice F., nee Mayer, Schlemer.
