Melvin E. Hartog, 74, died Monday, February 28, 2005, at his home. Melvin was born July 19, 1930, in Chikaming Township to Gerrit and Louise (Gridley) Hartog.
He attended Riverside Primary School and graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1948. He served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War, serving much of that time in Japan. Melvin was employed by Whirlpool Corporation, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Randall Couchman Post #204, American Legion, Three Oaks, and the Chikaming Fire Department. Melvin loved to walk, his favorite places to walk were the pier in St. Joseph and the dunes at Warren Dunes State Park. He enjoyed tinkering on cars and appliances and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Melvin loved his nieces, nephew, and family.
He is survived by his niece Rhonda (Ron) Bohn, great nephew Jordan and great niece Taylor, and his sister-in-law Reva (Philip) Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Duane in 1966, his father Gerrit in 1967, and his mother Louise in 1992.
