Melvin Cornell Nunn, Sr., 94, of Liberty, peacefully passed away, Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.

Melvin was a native of Stokes County and a longtime resident of Liberty. He was married for over seventy years to the love of his life, Inez. She and Melvin met as teenagers in Julian, NC as tobacco sharecroppers who traveled east to Randolph County for work. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served during WWII. Melvin and Inez raised four wonderful children together. He enjoyed tending his livestock and crops with his grandchildren. He was extraordinarily proud when his son, Mel, repurchased in 1984, the agriculture store which he had founded, Liberty Farm and Garden. Melvin was also employed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sally Nunn, and his daughter, Sandra Lawson.

Survivors: wife, Inez Nunn, of the home, daughter, Gloria Moore, of Liberty, sons, Mel Nunn Jr., and wife, Erika, of Staley, Eddie Nunn, and wife, Rhonda, of Randleman, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

The family kindly requests those whose lives were touched by Melvin to sow a vegetable garden in his memory.
