Melvin Chester Grismore, 83, passed away on May 2, 2016 at the Circle of Life Hospice and Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa; he was surrounded by friends and family. He was born July 20th, 1932, in Corydon, Iowa to Herman and Beulah Grismore. Melvin was the eldest of ten children; Luella, Rosella, Ruth, Betty, Mary Ellen, Kenneth, Alan, Michael, and Vicky. He grew up in Wayne County, Iowa. Melvin served in the United States Army from 1952-1954.
On June 27th, 1956 Melvin married the love of his life, Betty Gillman. Melvin and Betty were married for 59 years, 10 months. Melvin and Betty had three children; Gary, Larry, and Rhonda. Melvin’s family was the most important thing to him.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Luella Woodside; brother Michael; daughter-in-law; Alisa Grismore; grandson, Alex Grismore. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Gary (Penny) and Larry (Christi) Grismore of Chariton; daughter; Rhonda (Lance) Gardner of Ames, grandsons Jason (Michelle) Grismore of Lacona; Nathan (Jamie) Grismore of Osceola; Spencer and Grant Gardner of Ames; granddaughters; Sarah (Steve) Harvey of Chariton; Kalie Strife-Grismore of Chariton; Allison Gardner of Ames; four great grandchildren; brothers; Kenneth (Sharon) Grismore; Alan (Cathy) Grismore of Chariton; sisters, Rosella Enslow of Chariton, Ruth (Jerry) Neuburger of LaPine, Ore. Betty Beavers of Osceola, Mary Ellen Munyon of Osceola and Vicky Holland of Murray.
Melvin was a creative, kind, loving soul who touched the lives of many, and will forever be missed.
