Melvin Albert Meyr 94, of Moberly, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020.  He was born July 20,1926 in New Wells, MO to Elsie (Niederstadt) Meyr and William John Meyr.

Melvin was a veteran of WWII and proudly served in the military for 29 years which included active service, army reserves, and the Army National Guard, prior to receiving an Honorable Discharge.

A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Melvin received his Masters’s degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He began his career in education at Salisbury High School where he was principal, teacher, and substitute bus driver.  He retired from Moberly Area Community College in 1991 after teaching there for 23 years.

Melvin was a longstanding and active member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Moberly.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years Doris Elaine Wylie Meyer.  Also surviving are a son Gerald Meyr and his wife Donna of Jefferson City, MO, and his daughter Karen Harness and her husband Brook of Smithville , MO. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sisters Arlene Coulter of St. Louis, MO, and Nelda Kridel of New Wells, MO. Sister-in-law Mildred Meyr of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lawrence Meyr, and brother-in-laws Richard Coulter and Joseph Kridel.
