Mrs. Melvena C. Garth was born on March 8, 1931 to the late Ellis and Rosa Chapman in Morgan County, Alabama. Mrs. Garth passed away on May 14, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Parkway was married to Willie A. Garth who preceded her in death.

She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, later uniting with Sand Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Garth had a strong faith in God, and loved her children.

She had many hobbies which included; Bingo, fishing, gardening. Mrs. Garth also loved the Family Feud with Steve Harvey and soap operas. She loved sports.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Bobby Chapman; sister, Pauline Chapman; brothers, Oliver and Archie Chapman; grandson, LeShammon “Shorrell” Garth.

Mrs. Garth leaves to cherish her precious memory: seven daughters, Joyce Garth, Decatur, Jaye Allen (Rydell), Hartselle, Faye Garth McAfee (Clarence Powell), Chattanooga, TN, Sharon Garth, Huntsville, Teresa Hall, Decatur, Cynthia Garth Williams (Jeffrey), Hartselle, Michelle Garth (Greg), Decatur; two sons, Frederick Garth, Hartselle, Michael Garth (Cheryl), Decatur; adopted daughter, Gena Orr, Hartselle; a daughter-in-law, Linda Williams-Chapman, Priceville; one brother, Curtis Chapman, Falkville; sisters, Mattie McDaniel, Falkville, Olene Herring (James “J.D.”), Chattanooga, TN; sister-in-law, Inez Reynolds (Ed), South Pittsburgh, TN; 18 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
