Melodee Cooper passed away on Monday December 5, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas. Melodee fought the good fight against cancer to the very end and passed away surrounded by family and friends who loved her.

Melodee was born to Michael and Dianna Boulter in Lubbock on August 25, 1979. Even from the beginning she was a force to be reckoned with; independent and strong, a favorite phrase for young Mel was, “I do it MINESELF.” She was eventually joined by 5 younger brothers and sisters: Brandon, Bryan, Julianna, Matthew, and Emmalee. She taught her younger siblings a lot about good music, movies, games, and laughter.

A proud Texan, Melodee attended Texas A&M where she met the love of her life, Stephen Cooper. These two Aggies married in 2000 and had three wonderful boys: Kyle, Ryan, and Evan. Melodee loved being a wife and mother and was very proud of all of her boys.

Beyond being a loving wife, mother, daughter, niece, and sister, she was multi-talented and hard-working. She made a huge impact on the students she taught while working at Jane Long Elementary School in Midland, TX, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award. She loved planning parties, traveling, fashion, writing, and a good bubble bath. Her faith was also important to her. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she loved finding creative ways to serve and inspire her fellow church members.

She also inspired many through her courageous response to her battle with cancer. She was able to share her message through her blog and through her contributions to the book “Suffering and Surviving: Finding Sunshine in the Storm.” While it’s hard to capture a person’s story fully in print, her own words describe her perfectly: “I still have hope and faith that miracles will continue. I am a fighter, and am loving every moment of life with family and friends. I hope to share the light of faith and hope with others. I continue trying every day to get closer to reaching goals and making some of my fondest dreams come true.”
