Melinda Kay West French, beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend died unexpectedly Sunday, June 15th, in her home after an extended illness.

She was born October 31st, 1968, the daughter of Barbara McGuigan West and Floyd West. She graduated from Southside High School in 1987 and went on to Ivy Tech Community College where she made the dean’s list during several semesters in her medical assisting coursework. She was a former employee of the Delaware County Assessor’s Office.

Melinda was best known for her loving and generous heart, her quick wit, and her one-of-a-kind personality. She could keep friends and family members entertained for hours with her comedic-style persona. Friends and family members who knew her well knew that she was loyal to and passionate about her family members, especially her two grown children and her one and only grandson, Ethan Turner, who affectionately called her “Nana.”

Survivors in addition to her parents Barb and Floyd West, include her son Aaron James (A.J.) French and her daughter Barbara (French) Turner (husband, Dustin) and their son Ethan. She is also survived by one brother, Dale West (wife Christy) and their children Trent (wife, Sarah), Kayleigh, Nate, and Ava West, and Brittaney West (fiancé Adam Erwin). She has one great-niece, Braylynn West, and one great-nephew, Coltyn Ward). Her paternal grandmother, Ida Gibson, also survives, as do her aunts Mary Jo Barton (husband Dannie); Babe Plumley (husband Mick), Hurricane, West Virginia; Peggy McGuigan Kiger, Dallas, Texas; and Betty (Sis) Sloan of Muncie. She is also survived by three maternal uncles, Arthur and Scott McGuigan, both of Muncie and Marshall McGuigan of Sebring, Florida. Countless cousins also survive her and will miss her dearly.

Melinda was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents John and Edna McGuigan, a paternal grandfather Vern Gibson, and an uncle John (Speedy) McGuigan.  

Calling will be from 11-1p.m. Thursday, June 19th at Parson Mortuary.
