Melanie Hatcher Sinclair, 55, of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Albuquerque, NM, died Monday, August 27, 2018, after having lived with Type 1 Diabetes since her preteen years and later developing kidney and heart problems. She lived most of her adult life in Georgia, primarily in Roswell, Savannah, and Athens.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Tom Sinclair of Albuquerque and Cocoa Beach; her daughter, Ashleigh Sinclair Pater, and Ashleigh’s husband, CJ, of Orlando, FL; her parents, Ron and Carolyn Hatcher of Dunwoody, GA; and her sister, Melissa Hatcher Wooten and
brother-in-law, Dr. Tommy Wooten of Franklin, TN.
She is predeceased by her son, Thomas Luke Sinclair, of Albuquerque.
Melanie was born at Ft. Polk, LA, June 5, 1963, and soon moved with her parents to Wahiawa, HI. The family left Hawaii in 1965 for the Atlanta area and lived there before transferring to Birmingham, AL. Melanie spent the remainder of her childhood there.
She was graduated from W. A. Berry High School in Birmingham and from the University of Georgia in its Bicentennial Class of 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. Her major was Hospital Child Life Development. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Upon graduation, Melanie worked as a Recreational Therapist, then a Social Worker. Later in her career she was first a teacher’s assistant, then a certified teacher of children with special needs in the Cobb County School System. Melanie finished her career as an Administrative Assistant and Freedom of Information Act Assistant with the U.S.
