Melanie Bila, a resident of Chesaning, went peacefully to heaven, surrounded by her family on December 8, 2023, after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Melanie was born a Showalter, the daughter of Craig and Rosemary, on July 7, 1976. She grew up in Sumner, Michigan, and went on to become an IT manager at Rehmann accounting firm in Saginaw. Melanie met her husband, Mat Bila, in 1994, and lived in Freeland for many years where they were active members in the Lutheran Church.Melanie had many hobbies and loved to garden, crochet, and craft with garage sale finds. She especially loved being with her family, and there wasn’t a family get-together without games and fun activities. She was so proud to have recently become a grandma. She was helpful to all throughout her life, and her positive attitude served her well as she persevered and battled her cancers over the last fifteen years. She will be dearly missed.She was preceded in death by her father, Craig Showalter. In addition to her beloved husband, Mat, she is survived by her sons, Darren Bila and Garret (Olivia) Bila and their son, Theodore; her mother, Rosemary (the late Dick) Reed; sisters, Heather Vernon and Tammy (Chad) Smith; brothers, Pat (Stacy) Morford, Dave (Amy) Morford, Don (Lisa) Zinn, and her many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, co-workers and very dear friends whose lives she greatly touched.
