May Owens went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2012. May was born on February 28, 1906 to James and Mary Weakley in Pittsburg, Kansas. May lived her life in Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado. She was married to Samuel A. Owens on September 20, 1922 in McCook, Nebraska. To this union six children were born. They lived on a homestead south of Trenton, NE for many years and then moved to Red Cloud, NE in August 1948 where they resided on a farm. In August 1964, they moved to Canon City, CO for retirement. After moving to Canon City, she worked at St. Thomas More Hospital for 21 years as a dietary aid. May was chosen Silver Queen at Hildebrand Care Center and was first runner up at the Colorado State Fair in 2008. May is survived by sons, Maynard D. (Doris) Owens of Red Cloud, NE and Donald D. Owens of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Carolyn E. (Bill) Beitler of Canon City, CO; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; and thirty-eight great-great grandchildren; brother Vernon (Carol) Weakley of Howard KS; daughters-in-law, Leona (Marvin) Owens and Janet (James) Maruhn; son-in-law, Bill (Marjorie) Koetter; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; sons, Marvin D. Owens and James A. Owens; daughter, Marjorie E. Koetter; and son-in-law, Lloyd Berger; three sisters and five brothers.
