Maxwell Gordon Herrington Sr., of Birmingham, Alabama, lived 94, years of a wonderful life. He is survived by his wife Ruby L. Herrington, his two children, son Max G. Jr. (Mary), and daughter Lisa Herrington Holmes, and one grandson Brett Holmes, and brothers Conice, Billy and Chester Herrington, and many very special nieces and nephews. His family was his pride and joy. He was raised in Louisville, MS, by James and Lora Herrington and a family of seven older brothers, four of whom served in the Armed forces. “Mr. Max” as he was known throughout his church and community, served in World War II at Utah Beach in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and much of Europe. The Bronze Star Medal is just one of the many medals he was proud to have received: Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Europe, North Africa Campaign Ribbon with a Silver Star device, and World War II Victory Medal. Following his WWII Army service he completed his education at the University of Idaho while playing football for the Vandals. From there he began his 31 A½ year career at SONAT/Southern Natural Gas Company.
