On August 7, 2017, Reta Maxine Miller was received into the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A devout Christian, she was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Church where she helped with the church paper for many years. Maxine was born on July 27, 1928, in Freeport to Christian Frederick Carstedt and Anna (Rush) Carstedt. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1947 and on October 5, 1947, she married Glenn David Miller in Freeport.

An office manager for Brinley-Hardy Implement Company, she retired in 1980. Prior to the need for the care of Stephenson Nursing Center, she lived in the Lincoln Towers of Freeport. While living at The Towers, she was involved with the decorating committee and was an avid card player enjoying the many friendships made there.

Maxine had a great love of music. Making melodies with the Joy Singers gave her much happiness as they brought the sounds of Christian music throughout the community.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Miller (a welding instructor at Highland); her son, Gregory Miller (a local artist); her five sisters and one brother.

She is survived by her cherished daughter, Patricia (Roger) Heine, beloved daughter-in-law, Marcy (Gregory) Miller, and their respective families.

With great pride, she followed the accomplishments of her treasured grandchildren: Dana Dillard, Lea (Kurt) Schweitz, and Ryan (Emily) Heine.

She was always delighted by her great-grandchildren: Brian, Isaac, Kalder, Ella, Ryland and Oliver.

“In all of this” she would say, “I have been blessed.”
