EUREKA?Maxine M. Brown, 93, formerly of Elmwood and Galesburg, passed away at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Maple Lawn Health Care in Eureka.

Maxine was born on February 4, 1921 in Galesburg to Earl and Emelie Asquith Mitchell. She married Charles “Wayne” Brown in Kahoka, Missouri on January 3, 1939. Wayne passed away on January 24, 1997.

Among those surviving are two sons, Larry (Pat) Brown of Champaign and Keith (Ellen) Brown of Washington; one brother, Richard (Fran) Mitchell of Torrance, CA; five grandchildren, Eric, Karen, Michael, Jennifer & Judy; four great grandchildren and her loved Maple Lawn Family. She was also preceded in death by one son, Eugene Brown; one sister, Marilyn and one brother, Earl Mitchell, Jr.

Maxine and Wayne were Angus farmers for over 40 years in rural Elmwood prior to their retirement. In addition to being a farming wife, Maxine also was a licensed practical nurse and had worked in the Peoria, Galesburg and Elmwood area for several years.

One of the highlights of her life began on March 28, 2000 when she joined the Maple Lawn Community in Eureka.
