Maxie L. “Butch” Copeland, Jr. was born on September 10, 1946 to Marion Viola Copeland and Maxie L. Copeland, Sr. in Rayville, Louisiana. He went to the Lord on June 7, 2016 following a lengthy illness. He was a graduate of Rayville High School and following graduation went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. During his career in the Air Force, he fought in the Vietnam War as a medic saving lives. He then attended Northeast Louisiana University where he met wife, Denise Knight Copeland.

His career in the Air Force as a medic led to him a career as a medic on oil rigs and then on to a 30 year career as a medical laboratory technician. Butch was also an author and an inventor, earning a United States patent on February 14, 1995. He was not only a talented man but he was also a loving family man. He was an avid football fan and loved his New Orleans Saints, through thick and thin. He was known and loved by many in this community and will always be remembered.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Maxie L. Copeland, Sr. and Marion Viola Copeland and his sister, Sandra Copeland Harrison. He is survived by his sister, Sherry Copeland Nelson; his wife, Denise Knight Copeland; his three daughters, Samantha, Heather, and Hilary; grandchildren, Chandler, CoCo, and Holden; and his great granddaughter, Adaleigh.
