Max Richard Haase, Jr., age 79, passed away on April 15, 2017 with his loving wife by his side after a short but intense battle with Cancer. Max was born on September 9, 1937 in Kalamazoo, MI. to Max Richard and Ida Emma (Doerfer) Haase, Sr. Max was the youngest of 3 sons. Max graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1955, after which he served his country in the Army where he was stationed overseas. When Max returned home he was united in marriage to Ruth Schippers of Kalamazoo on October 18, 1958. Max worked as a mason contractor owning and running his own company building custom homes throughout the area for more than 60 years.
Max & Ruth have six children – Carol (Paul) Howes of Schoolcraft, Nancy Dell of Battle Creek, Laura Freeman of Battle Creek, Richard (Virginia) Haase of Kalamazoo, Gary Haase of Galesburg and Bruce (Diana) Haase of Plainwell. Max is also survived by twelve grandchildren – Holly (Andrew) Pavlinski, Jason Dell, Jared (Karen) Dell, Mindy (Nick) Owsiany, Paul Haase, Taryn Freeman, Brandan Haase, Amanda Haase, Claire Haase, Elaina Haase, Anthony Haase & Andrew Haase. Max was also fortunate to have six great-grandchildren that melted his heart – Owen Haase, Camden & Cayden Dell, Payton & Kenzie Owsiany and Sloan Brown.
Max was preceded in death by his parents and both of his wonderful brothers Conrad Haase and Harry Haase and one son-in-law Richard Freeman. Max had many hobbies, including wood working, making bird houses and feeders to give as gifts to family and friends, going to weekly car auctions to find the next great car to drive for a while and traveling with Ruth to visit friends and family in the south during the cold winter months. Max was also an avid hunter & fisherman throughout his life.
