Max F. Thomas, 88, of Hazel Green, Alabama, slipped into his Savior’s arms on August 15, 2022.
Max was born to Charles W. Thomas & Velma Tate Thomas on June 12, 1934 in Chattanooga, TN. He attended Hamilton County Schools graduating from Chattanooga Central High School in 1952. He participated as an officer in their ROTC program and also boxed in the Golden Gloves.
Max was employed by Bellsouth. He began his career as a lineman, moving up through the ranks and retiring as District Manager in Birmingham, Alabama. His work experience with the “telephone company” Took him from Chattanooga to Miami, Florida, to Pensacola, Florida, and finally, to Birmingham, Alabama. Max was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and Huffman Masonic Lodge #663, Pinson, Alabama. He became a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
Max was an avid Crimson Tide fan and loved watching his sons, grandson, and great-grandchildren participate in their chosen sports.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles A. Thomas of Chattanooga, TN and by his sister, Joyce T. Marr also of Chattanooga, TN.
He is survived by the love of his life, Sue Freeman Thomas. They shared 70 wonderful and happy years together. He is also survived by two sons, Michael S. (Kerry) Thomas of Hazel Green, AL; Sargent Major Charles R. (Donna) Thomas of Spanish Fort, AL; Grandchildren: Logan (Sammy) Walker of Hazel Green, Al; Clay (Sara) Thomas of Meridianville, AL; Stephanie Emrich of Mobile, Al; Great-grandchildren: Landon Walker of Hazel Green, Al; Colton Vitagel and Chole Vitagel of Mobile, Al; Callie Emrich and Camryn Emrich of Mobile, Al; His sister, Dana Thomas Cross of Chattanooga, Tn; His aunt, June (Wayne) Colbaugh of Harrison, Tn; Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Max loved his family and friends who were the center of his universe.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Huntsville Hospital for their care for Max.
