Max B. Roeder, M.D., age 76, died at his home in Boerne, Texas, on November 24, 2010. He was born in Lima, Ohio to Donald and Kerry Roeder. He attended Ohio State University and graduated Cum Laude in 1959 with a medical degree. Following graduation he moved to Texas and served his internship and radiology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After two years as a Captain in the USAF, he began his medical practice at Methodist Hospital in Houston. While in Houston he was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Baylor College of Radiology. In 1973, he moved to Weslaco, Texas, opened a private office and served as Chief of Radiology at Knapp Medical Center. He was elected Chief of Staff at Knapp from 1977-1979. While in Weslaco he became involved in the citrus business, where he built a packing shed and shipped gift fruit from his grove. In 1985 he joined the MC-USAF and served as a Lieutenant Colonel until his retirement in 1995. He returned to UT Medical Branch in Galveston in 1990 for a fellowship in Vascular/Interventional radiology and remained until 1992 as an Assistant Professor of Radiology. His desire for knowledge led him next to the UTHSC in San Antonio for a two year Neuroradiology fellowship. From 1994-1999 he was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor at UTHSCSA. While in San Antonio he spent weekends exploring the Hill Country. When he found Roeder Street in Boerne he saw it as an omen that Boerne was where he should live. He semi-retired from the practice of Radiology and became a “cedar-chopper”. He raised quail and relaxed by sitting and watching them in flight pen. When it was time to catch and release the quail on the ranch, family and neighbors were pressed into action.
