Mavor Etta Smith, 83

Okeechobee – Mavor Etta Smith passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021. She went to be home with the Lord whom she referred to as her Father in Heaven. She was born July 16, 1937, in West Palm Beach to the late Thomas Monroe Smith and Thelma Beadie Upthegrove Swindle. A resident of Okeechobee since 1970, she was a devoted member of the Abiding Hope Worship Center.

Ms. Smith was a nurse for over 30 years, having worked at Raulerson Hospital, VNA, and Okeechobee Correctional Institute. She was a true giver and always made sure you left her home full of food and at least one gift. She enjoyed painting, cooking, and feeding the homeless. Her favorite activity was working in her yard. She said it was her Garden of Eden. But she especially loved her Upthegrove heritage and would talk to you for hours about it.

Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; aunts and uncles; and significant other, Glenn Stoll.

She is survived by the father of her children, Clyde Autrey, Sr. of Sanderson, Texas; daughters, Cheryl Birgholtz (Kenneth) and Debra Moody (Charles Wood) of Okeechobee, Florida; sons, Clyde Autrey, Jr. (Lara) of Sanderson, Texas and Dean Autrey (Sheryl) of Buckhead Ridge, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 15 great great-grandchildren; her sister, Glenda Wolnik; aunt, Pat Upthegrove; one niece; two nephews; and many cousins.
